Today (29/10) the European Union (EU) and its Member States conducted a one-day seminar titled European Research Day 2019 in Surabaya. Close to 200 researchers from across Indonesia joined the event to learn about the wide range of European research funding and fellowship opportunities available to them.
The European Research Day, which is organised by EURAXESS ASEAN, is designed to advance the careers of Indonesian researchers by giving them an opportunity to conduct research at the highest level in Europe or with European partners, and to produce publications and innovations which will ultimately benefit Indonesia’s social and economic development. The EU has long been promoting international cooperation in research towards a more sustainable and competitive society and economy.
At today's event, representatives from research funding agencies in France, Germany, the Netherlands and Spain shared their insights about European research excellence, and provided advice on how to prepare a successful research proposal. They also highlighted a wide range of research funding opportunities including the prestigious Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions which offer excellent career development opportunities for Indonesian researchers at all stages of their research career.
"International research collaboration has never been more important. Europe, Indonesia and ASEAN need to work together to develop innovative solutions to the global challenges facing us today including climate change, food and energy security, and infectious diseases,“ stated Mr Charles-Michel Geurts, Deputy Head of the EU Delegation to Indonesia. "Thousands of students and researchers from Indonesia and ASEAN have already benefited enormously from studying at higher education institutions and from research fellowships in Europe, through programmes such as Erasmus Mundus, Horizon 2020 and other bilateral funding schemes," he continues.
