We are

The European Union (EU) is an economic and political partnership between 28 European countries. It plays an important role in international affairs through diplomacy, trade, development aid and working with global organisations. Abroad, the EU is represented through more than 140 diplomatic representations, known also as EU Delegations, which have a similar function to those of an embassy.

The EU Delegation to Malaysia represents the European Union in Malaysia, and plays an essential part in the EU political, economic and commercial relations with the host country, as well as providing information on the policies and institutions of the EU. It has similar function to those of an Embassy.

 

We offer

We offer a post of Driver . Under this post, the recruited person will be attributed functions depending on the needs of the Delegation. Upon recruitment, the successful candidate will occupy a specific job function as Driver – this job function may be changed in accordance with the needs of the Delegation. Under this job function the successful candidate will serve as technical and support staff to provide driving services with the executive car and service car by weekly rotation and help in general administration under the supervision and responsibility of the Head of Administration. 

 

The successful candidate will be offered an open-end employment contract as Local Agent – Group V. The basic salary is MYR 1893.00 per month with 3 years driving experience.

 

Main Tasks:

  • Drive the Delegation’s staff and visitors as per assignment in a safe and law-abiding manner to ensure passenger safety and vehicle longevity;
  • Clean, maintain and repair the vehicles placed under his/her responsibility;
  • Control the level of fuel, engine oil, radiator water, brake fluid, power steering fluid, etc.;
  • Tackle the car registration formalities;
  • Update the car documents, notably the vehicle logbook;
  • Deliver messages, mail and diplomatic pouch;
  • Perform handyman duties (office small maintenance, purchasing items and supplies, delivery and pick-up of documents or small goods, etc.);
  • Assist in general administrative tasks such as customs clearance procedure, protocol matters as well as receptionist duties and other work when needed;
  • Assist in the organisation of meetings taking place in the Delegation or outside events;
  • Any other task in the interest of the service.

We look for

 

The EU Delegation is seeking a highly motivated candidate to occupy the post of Driver in the Administration section of the EU Delegation.

 

The successful candidate will have the following profile and qualities:

 

Formal education, training
 

  • Secondary education;
  • A diploma in mechanics would be an asset;

 

Eligibility criteria

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Medically fit to perform the required duties;
  • Enjoys civil rights and permits for employment under local law;
  • Good command of English and Bahasa (written and spoken);
  • 3 years of professional driving experience with valid driving licence.
  • Able to work overtime whenever required.

 

Successful experience in specific areas of expertise

Proven pertinent experience in the following areas:

 

  • Thorough knowledge of driving and mechanics;
  • Experience as a driver in an Embassy, Governmental or International Organisation, and others in Malaysia;
  • Handling of administrative files related to diplomatic privileges and immunity;
  • Familiarity with the location of major buildings (Embassies, Ministries, International Organisations, etc.) and with Malaysian authorities/Ministries;
  • Computer literacy, and ability to work with Windows applications.

 

General skills and competences

Candidate should demonstrate:

 

  • Good physical condition (a yearly medical check-up is obligatory);
  • Capacity to communicate clearly and courteously in English and Bahasa, both with internal and external contacts;
  • Capacity to work in a multicultural team, showing good interpersonal skills;
  • Sense of initiative, organisation, responsibility, punctuality and discretion;
  • Capability to perform multiple tasks and adjust to changing priorities and respect deadlines, even when working under pressure and while respecting the driving laws;
  • Ability to work flexibly and under time pressure (high-level visits and overnight shifts).

The procedure

After the deadline for applications, the applications will be reviewed by a Selection Committee set up for this purpose. The Selection Committee will prepare a short-list of candidates who are considered to be the most suitable for the post on the basis of a preliminary assessment of the information provided in their application letter and the supporting documents. The short-listed candidates will be invited to an assessment phase which may include an interview if necessary – during this phase, the Selection Committee will assess the suitability of the candidates for the post.

 

The candidates who have not been short-listed will not be contacted individually; however, the Delegation will use the same means of publication as for this Vacancy Notice to inform the remaining candidates once the recruitment procedure has been completed and that a candidate has (or has not) been recruited.
