Description: The Project is expected to result in the improvement of road safety and reduced risks, in particular for vulnerable road users. The schemes implemented will also encourage walking, cycling, and use of public transport in each city. The knowledge about safety engineering and traffic calming options in each participating city will be increased, as road designers are given training on modern international design practices and they gain experience in it. The Ukraine Urban Road Safety Project will contribute to urban road safety investment programmes in the participating cities, namely Odessa, Dnipro, Lviv, Kiev, and Kharkiv. The Project will complement and build upon other ongoing road safety initiatives at national level including those supported by the EU and the Bank, and provide safer road infrastructure with a focus on better facilities for pedestrians and cyclists, and better access to public transport and thus promote sustainable urban transport solutions.
