On 25 June, the EU will hold a first High-Level Human Rights Dialogue meeting with Cuba. The EU will be represented by the EU Special Representative on Human Rights,Stavros Lambrinidis, and Cuba will be represented by the Director-General of the Cuban Ministry for Multilateral Issues and International Law of Foreign Affairs Mr Pedro Nuñez Mosquera. The objective of this first meeting is to discuss the modalities for the pursuit of this dialogue, and to discuss basic human rights principles in the context of a number of bilateral and multilateral thematic areas.
During their formal political dialogue on 22 April 2015, High Representative / Vice-President Federica Mogherini and the Foreign Minister of Cuba Bruno Rodriguez agreed on starting to work towards establishing a structured EU-Cuba Human Rights Dialogue. Human rights are an essential element of EU-Cuba relations and dialogue will help both parties to advance work in this area.
