Regional overview

The overall objective of this project is to contribute to prevent and manage conflicts and security threats in West Africa.

Specific objectives (SOs) and Expected Results are:

  • SO1: Strengthen ECOWAS’s mechanisms to promote and maintain peace and stability and post crisis operations. 
    • Result 1.1: Enhanced capacity of political parties in critical areas covered by ECOWAS Training Modules and establishment and strengthening of Inter-Party platforms. 
    • Result 1.2: Sustained liaison, coordination, partnership and participation in all relevant statutory meetings of AU and ECOWAS. 
    • Result 1.3: Specific training courses and exercises using the Training Centres of Excellence (TCEs) and Training Institutions (TIs) are provided in order to make the ECOWAS Standby Force (ESF) fully operational. 


  • SO2: Enable ECOWAS to prevent and manage erupting or existing conflicts 
    • Result 2.1: Improved regional linkage of national networks with EWD Headquarters (Data and capacity management, coordination and training). 
    • Result 2.2: Strengthened conflict prevention, preventive diplomacy and mediation capacities of relevant ECOWAS institutions, member states and civil society institutions within member states through close collaboration with the training centres of excellence. 
    • Result 2.3: Reinforced ECPF implementation and strengthened cooperation and coordination related to the 15 ECPF action plans.   


  • SO3: Contribute to the creation of a secure and safe post conflict environment 
    • Result 3.1: Strengthened Regional Security Division (RSD).
