The Central Asia Drug Action Programme (CADAP 6) hosted its 3rd National Steering Committee meeting in Turkmenistan on 15 November 2018, presenting a platform to exchange recommendations for the current sixth phase of the Programme’s implementation

The event gathered representatives of key national partners, including the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry, Youth Organisation named after Makhtumkuli and the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan, as well as international partners, such as OSCE, BOMCA and Embassies of the EU Member States.

The purpose of the event was to review the activities already carried out by the Programme and discuss the remaining regional and national events until the closure of the extension phase in September 2019. While the meeting presented a platform to exchange recommendations for the current sixth phase of the Programme’s implementation, it also served as a stage for national partners to voice their ideas for the next phase of CADAP.

It was noted that Turkmenistan actively participates in all national and regional events of the Programme and has been particularly dynamic in the components related to prevention and treatment introducing practices, such as motivational interviewing for the youth at risk.

CADAP 6 represents continuity of the EU policy and its long-term engagement with Central Asian partners to help further strengthen their national strategies in drug supply and drug demand reduction policies. The programme is funded by the European Union and implemented by the Consortium from the Netherlands, Czech Republic, Poland and Germany, led by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.
