On 15-17 October 2018 , the EU-funded Open Media Hub Project is organising a 3-day workshop on Telling an Impactful story on EU issues for TV and online journalists. The course will focus on editorial, writing and editing skills.

On 15-17 October 2018 , the EU-funded Open Media Hub Project is organising a 3-day workshop on Telling an Impactful  story on EU issues for TV and online journalists. The course will focus on editorial, writing and editing skills.

During the course, participating journalists will focus on producing in real time, with existing materials available online and in country, a story with a specific angle on an EU-funded project or activity. They  will produce appealing and informative  stories editorially relevant to their outlets in a format pertinent for news broadcasts.  The stories will be broadcast/published on the outlets and will be made available on the Open Media Hub’s platform and website, for exchange between participants locally and internationally.

These editorial sessions are conceived to build, enhance the skills of the media professionals and their outlets. It will empower them to understand the basics of EU decision making and encourage participants to embed EU coverage as an editorial strand of their content with a practical approach to identify relevant elements and sources of information, data, video. And understanding of the resources available to tell a story on a project funded by the European Union, to produce both broadcast and on-line outputs as part of the practical implementation of the workshop.

The trainer will be Elena Gabrielian of RFI with local support by media expert Nina Iskandaryan.

The course will include identifying the available online remote and local resources for covering EU related stories, with hands on Follow the Money exercise. Journalists will pitch a story to be selected to attend, on topics and themes based on country projects and priorities. During the training, participating crews are asked to provide their own filming and editing gear.

The Open Media Hub Project aims at increasing the professional skills of journalists and media managers and supporting the production of audiovisual content and online material in the European Neighbourhood countries, contributing to the development of independent media. The project is implemented by a Consortium led by Thomson Foundation and including European media organisations such as France Médias Monde, the European Journalism Center and Free Press Unlimited.
