Tourism is one of the key development priorities of the Republic of Armenia. This prioritisation aims at increasing the Gross National Income in a decentralised manner by, (a) increasing the number of tourists, (b) increasing the average expenditure of tourists, and consequently (c) creating new job opportunities.

By promoting Dilijan and adjacent communities as tourism destination, the project aims at increasing the number of visitors in the region, and creating an environment where tourists are willing to spend more on activities and by this to boost local economies and increase employment.

By promoting Dilijan and adjacent communities as tourism destination, the project aims at increasing the number of visitors in the region, and creating an environment where tourists are willing to spend more on activities and by this to boost local economies and increase employment.

Actions in Brief

The project will be beneficial for at least 330 people and 120 enterprises who will be provided support through capacity building activities, having the main goal of improving their competitiveness and decreasing the unemployment level in the region. 50 direct employment opportunities will be created within the framework of this project.

Tourist Information Centre(TIC) established in Dilijan will provide comprehensive information about the area. In close cooperation with tourism representatives (private and public) the TIC will be the central point of all touristic and recreational activities in the region. Through refurbishing and marking the hiking trails of Dilijan National Park, the project will aid to further development of eco-tourism in Armenia. The project will allow creating Dilijan City Market, Agro Pavilion as well as the Arts and Crafts centre to cater to both locals and visitors alike. The project plans to provide financial support under sub grant to third parties (up to 5000 euro each). The beneficiaries will be enterprises willing to create additional employment opportunities for residents of Dilijan and adjacent communities.
