European Union organizes rap, music, and poetry contest for High School students in Liberia

The European Union Delegation to Liberia is organizing the “Da Youth Dem Voice Here” (Voices of the youth) contest to commemorate International Day of Education, 2021.

“Da Youth Dem Voice Here” Contest is a national Rap/Singing/Poetry contest for young Liberians living in Liberia. It seeks to showcase youthful creativity while reflecting on their role in building the Liberia they dream about every day. The competition is open to Liberian High School students from Grade 9-12. The contest is held under the theme,” My Future Liberia”.

Interested young Liberians were encouraged to film themselves either reciting a poem, rapping, or singing about their future aspirations for the country. Submission of entries was opened from December 7, 2020, and run till January 12, 2021, the @EUinLiberia’s Facebook page. Ten entries have been shortlisted for public voting on the Delegations from January 13 till January 21, 2021.

Liberian Musician, CIC has been named as a member of the jury for the competition. Other judges included Chris Wolo of Capitol FM and Vivian Musah of Liberian Poet Society. Winners of the contest will be awarded on Monday, January 25, 2021, to commemorate the International Day of Education.

The European Union Delegation to Liberia supports the education sector through its Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) interventions for Liberia's young people. The project focuses on increasing employment opportunities for young people through skills development.

All entries submitted will be vetted and the top ten selected for public voting via the EU’s Facebook page.

The first three winners of the “Da Youth Dem Voice Here” contest will receive smartphones and participation certificates.
