On Thursday 16 and Friday 17 January, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission, Josep Borrell, will be in New Delhi, to pay a bilateral visit to India, and to attend the annual Raisina Dialogue
On Thursday at 14:45 CET, High Representative/Vice-President Borrell will deliver the closing speech on the European Union’s contribution to global peace and security. The speech will be available on Europe by Satellite. In the margins of the Dialogue, High Representative/Vice-President Borrell will have a number of bilateral meetings with other participants, including the Foreign Affairs Minister of Iran, Mohammad Javad Zarif, the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Australia, Marise Payne, the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of South Africa, Naledi Pandor, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives, Abdulla Shahid.
The visit to New Delhi will also provide Josep Borrell with a first opportunity to meet in person, in his new capacity as EU High Representative/Vice-President, with a number of Indian officials. He will address the main priorities of the EU-India Strategic Partnership with the Minister of External Affairs of India, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar. Discussions are expected to focus on a number of pressing bilateral issues, including preparation of the upcoming EU-India Summit, which will be the first bilateral Summit of the new EU leadership, and international issues of common interest. High Representative/Vice-President Borrell will also meet with the Minister of Defence Rajnath Singh to discuss EU-India security and defence cooperation. While in New Delhi, High Representative/Vice-President Borrell will also meet with think tanks.
