EU ministers of finance met in Brussels today with their counterparts from the Western Balkans and Turkey as part of the region’s annual economic and financial dialogue with the EU.  The ministers agreed Joint Conclusions outlining the key economic challenges for the Western Balkans and Turkey, as well as targeted policy guidance addressing the most acute socio-economic reform needs the region has.

I've always found it difficult, for us, the outsiders, the temporary guests in this country, to speak in these events on dealing with Albania's very painful past. We will never fully appreciate what the people who witnessed life during communist Albania have gone through, seeing imprisonments, labour camps, torture, humiliations and killings.


On the occasion of the International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia, the European Union reiterates its unswerving commitment to promoting and protecting the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) persons.


On 9 May High Representative/Vice-President Federica Mogherini participated at the Brdo-Brijuni Summit in Tirana which brought together Heads of State or Government of the Western Balkans. Brdo-Brijuni is a joint Slovenian-Croatian initiative aimed at strengthening political dialogue and promoting the resolution of outstanding bilateral and regional issues.

On the 20th of August last summer, a high school student decided to skip class and sit down outside the Swedish Parliament until the Paris Agreement would be fully implemented.

This single action of a 15 year-old girl launched the most successful global environmental movement ever. Only six months later, the Fridays for Future would gather more than 1,5 million students in the streets of 125 countries.

Greta Thunberg is one of the many young people bringing a new urgency to the forefront of political change.
