Secretary-General of European External Action Service Alain Le Roy visited Tashkent on October 18-20, 2015. Mr. Le Roy was accompanied by the EU Special Representative for Central Asia Ambassador Peter Burian.
Mr. Le Roy and Ambassador Burian held constructive meetings with First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Rustam Azimov, Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulaziz Kamilov, and Deputy Minister of Foreign Economic Relations, Industry and Trade Shavkat Tulyaganov. As part of the program they also visited an EU-financed development project in Tashkent and met representatives of international organizations and diplomatic missions accredited to the country.
Mr. Le Roy exchanged views with his interlocutors on the areas of EU – Uzbekistan cooperation, including security, rural development, education, human rights, energy, water management and economic cooperation.
As in the previous meetings Mr. Le Roy stressed EU's continued commitment to assist Uzbekistan in political, governance and socio-economic reforms.
European Union’s envoys thanked their interlocutors in Uzbekistan for their hospitality and stressed that they looked forward to further expansion of EU – Uzbekistan relations and to new avenues for development cooperation.
