Federica Mogherini, High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission, spoke today with the Libyan Prime Minister Designate Fayez Al Sarraj to welcome his nomination and assure him of the European Union's full support for his work in the coming days, weeks and months in leading Libya out of its current impasse towards peace and stability.
She reiterated the EU's support to the UN led dialogue process and the importance for the Libyan parties to agree rapidly to the deal on the table. The High Representative and the Libyan Prime Minister Designate discussed the current state of play and the efforts being made to finalise the deal which is in the interests of all Libyans.
She recalled that the EU stands ready with a substantial and immediate support once the Government of National Accord is formed. This package of support will of course be discussed and agreed with the Libyans so that it would meet their priorities and needs. The High Representative and the Libyan Prime Minister Designate will stay in close contact and meet at the earliest possible opportunity.
