In 1963, African leaders confirmed a vision of African unity anchored in key principles such as national sovereignty and territorial integrity. Their aspirations have retained their full relevance up to the present day. The European Union will continue to support its partner in realizing its aspirations – and will do so through concrete commitments, notably by supporting Africa’s call for fair representation in international forums such as the G20.

The European Union fully supports the African Union in the implementation of African Continental Free Trade Area. Sixty years since the foundation of the OAU, the AU’s theme of the year could not have been better chosen.

The European Union stands by the African Union in its efforts to foster economic and political integration. Our support is across all the different domains of our cooperation and renewed partnership, notably through the Global Gateway Investment Package. This is EU’s contribution to narrowing the global investment gap worldwide through high-standard and transparent infrastructure partnership to meet global infrastructure development needs.
