Are you a young graduate interested in international relations? Are you curious to learn more about work of a diplomatic mission and how the EU Delegation represents EU interests and values in Colombia?

What we offer?

A traineeship of up to 6 months within the Political, Press and Information (PPI) or Trade (TR) or Cooperation (CO) Sections of the EU Delegation to Colombia, starting in July-August 2019.

Traineeship in the Political, Press and Information Section:

The Political, Press and Information Section of the Delegation of the European Union to Colombia is in charge of reaffirming the European Union's support for Colombia's stabilization agenda in the area of peace and human rights. The Section also covers relations with the press, public and cultural diplomacy.  

Main tasks:

  • Background research on EU policies and current affairs.
  • Following, analysing and reporting on developments in relevant policy areas i.a. peacebuilding, human rights, foreign policy, green diplomacy, education, culture, science and technology.
  • Implementation of the EU Delegation's communication strategy: media relations and outreach, public diplomacy, web page, social networks, newsletter.
  • Coordination with EU Member States, international organizations and civil society.
  • Logistical support to the Political and Information Section.

Qualifications or special requirements:

  • Knowledge in politics and international relations.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish is required.
  • Knowledge of social media would be an asset.

Traineeship in the Trade and Economic Section:

The Trade Section of the Delegation of the European Union to Colombia is in charge of following trade and economic developments of the bilateral trade relations since the implementation of the Trade Agreement that entered into force in August 2013.

Main tasks: 

  • Prepare a regular newsletter on trade and economic developments in Colombia and with its main trade partners, including the EU.
  • Analyse figures and prepare reports on trade and economic trends.
  • Support the section in the implementation of the Trade Agreement between the EU and Colombia.
  • Monitor the Trade Agreement in force.
  • Assist in the preparation of meetings related to trade and the trade agreement.
  • Prepare power point presentations for the section.
  • Elaborate internal reports of different meetings.
  • Assist to seminars, workshop and events relevant to the work of the section.

Qualifications or special requirements:

  • General understanding of international trade and economic matters.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish is required.

Traineeship in the Cooperation Section:

The Cooperation Section of the Delegation of the European Union to Colombia is in charge of following the development cooperation. It also ensures the long-term programming of aid and the management of programmes and devolved projects within the framework of the current external aid management.

Main tasks: 

  • Organize meetings of donors and of donors with civil society and with government institutions.
  • Prepare minutes of meetings and follow up on commitments in strategic meetings.
  • Analyse and systematize cooperation experiences.
  • Attend key seminars and events and draft information notes on policy issues.
  • Support evaluation and monitoring missions
  • Assist implementation of cooperation projects and support its proper registration in SICEC.
  • Support mainstreaming of key development aspects such as gender, transparency, Human Rights Based Approach, etc..

Qualifications or special requirements:

  • Fluency in English and Spanish is required

Important information

Before applying you are requested to examine the dedicated website as well as the general eligibility criteria for a paid traineeship (Article 8 of the Decision ADMIN(2017)28 – Paid traineeship)

Each selected trainee will receive a monthly grant to cover living expenses. All costs related to travel inside the country of residence, visa, insurance, accommodation must be borne by the trainee.

Applications from non-eligible candidates will not be considered. After the evaluation of all applications, shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited for an interview. Unsuccessful candidates will be notified by email. In case the selected candidate is not able to present the required documents, his/her candidacy will be rejected.
