The EU welcomes the decisions taken at the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Extraordinary meeting of ministers of foreign affairs on 10 August
These represent a further step after the agreement signed in Khartoum on 5 August 2018 that called for further negotiations and encouraged all involved to ensure that hostilities cease. The EU continues to stand for an agreement acceptable to all concerned parties and citizens of South Sudan, one that will ensure that the economic underpinnings of South Sudan’s economy are transparently managed and contains adequate provision for verification.
The continuing negotiations in Khartoum are an important test for peace in South Sudan. The European Union awaits the completion of this round of negotiation.
