3rd European Union - African Union Ministerial meeting held in Brussels

Foreign affairs ministers of the European Union and the African Union met for the third time to take stock of progress made since the sixth EU-AU Summit of February 2022.

Ministers exchanged views on the EU-AU partnership and how to further strengthen cooperation in this landmark year marking the 25th anniversary of their enduring and unique partnership.

During the meeting discussions revolved around the following topics:

  • peace, security and governance
  • multilateralism
  • prosperity
  • people, migration and mobility

The meeting was co-chaired by the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, and the Minister of External Relations of Angola, Tete António, Chairperson of the AU Executive Council.

Africa is a geopolitical priority of the EU at a time of increased geopolitical volatility.

The EU and its member states remain the first trading partner, first investor, first Official Development Assistance and humanitarian donor to Africa, with €309 billion Foreign Direct Investments in Africa in 2022.

2025 marks the 25th anniversary of the EU-AU Partnership and is crucial year for the partnership, as it will feature the 3rd EU-AU Ministerial meeting and 7th EU-AU Summit in Africa.

The EU and Africa can be a powerful force when acting together.
