Job opening for local staff for the position of Press and Information Assistant (Local Agent Group II) in the Political, Press and Information Section. The delegation renews its request for applications for the position to assist with media monitoring, information campaigns and social media outreach. Deadline for applications is 26 March 2019.

Abroad, the EU is represented by 140 diplomatic representations, known as EU Delegations, which have a similar function to those of an embassy.

We offer

The EU Delegation to Afghanistan is again recruiting for the position as Press and Information Assistant. In this position, the recruited person will be assigned tasks depending on the needs of the Delegation. Upon recruitment, the successful candidate will occupy a specific job function as Press and Information Assistant, although this job function may be changed in accordance with the needs of the Delegation. In this job, the successful candidate will assist the Press Officer and the political section with media analysis and contacts. 

Functions and duties:

  • Analysis and translation of press articles on the EU’s activities in Afghanistan, including a monthly media analysis of coverage of topics related to the EU;

  • Analysis of media reporting on political, economic and development activities of the donor community in Afghanistan;

  • Analysis of media reporting on the main political developments in Afghanistan and the region;

  • Translation of press articles as and when required;

  • Monitoring and management of the EU Delegation’s social media accounts;

  • Replacing the press officer and the secretary/administrative assistant of the Political, Press and Information Section in case of their absence;

  • Assisting in the preparation and implementation of the annual information plan along with the corresponding budget.

    Media Relations

  • Establishing and maintaining contacts with media to promote awareness of the EU, as well as assisting in campaigns and outreach activities

  • Drafting and distributing press releases in Persian and Pashto

  • Coordinating media events for national media, specifically for journalistic content in Persian and Pashto, such as press briefings and press conferences, press and TV interviews and information seminars.

  • Promoting publicity on EU development programs and projects in local media

 

Working environment:  Political, Press and Information Section

Working Hours:             8.30-12.30, 13.30-17.30

Group:                            II

Basic salary:                    € 2563

Selection criteria

Minimum requirements:

  1. Medically fit to perform the required duties;
  2. Enjoys civil rights and permit for employment under local law;
  3. Proficiency in English, Persian and Pashto

Required education and experience:

  • Relevant university degree, preferably in journalism, communications or international relations.
  • Minimum three (3) years of work experience after graduation in media or communications, preferably in international organizations or diplomatic missions.
  • Knowledge of another European or Afghan language would be an advantage.
  • Database management
  • Social media (Facebook, Twitter)
  • Proficiency in writing /editing articles.
  • Ability to listen, to consult and to share information and ideas
  • Ability to work independently, as well as in a team
  • Inter-cultural communication skills
  • Capacity to focus on priorities, good time management and organization skills.
  • Flexibility to work under pressure and to respond quickly to information requests.

The procedure

After the deadline for applications, the applications will be reviewed by a Selection Committee set up for this purpose. The Selection Committee will shortlist candidates who are considered to be the most suitable for the post on the basis of a preliminary assessment of the information provided in their application letter and the supporting documents. The short-listed candidates will be invited to an assessment phase which may include an interview if necessary. At this stage, the Selection Committee will assess the suitability of the candidates for the post.

The candidates who have not been shortlisted will not be contacted individually; however, the Delegation will use the same means of publication as for this Vacancy Notice to inform the remaining candidates, once the recruitment procedure has been completed.
