Ambassador Pierre Mayaudon, the new European Union Head of Delegation to Afghanistan, handed his credential this morning to the President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, H.E Muhammad Ashraf Ghani.
During the conversation that followed, Ambassador Pierre Mayaudon reaffirmed the European Union’s unstoppable commitment to strengthening its partnership with Afghanistan. He explained the strengthening of EU-Afghanistan relations by having an EU Ambassador in Kabul and a Special Envoy based in Brussels. Mayaudon further elaborated that this partnership now benefits from the momentum emanating from the Brussels Conference and the 2017 Cooperation Agreement. It will encourage further engagement with the State institutions, the civil society as well as the private sector. Trade and economic relations will be one of the new features of this engagement.
Ambassador Pierre Mayaudon praised the resilience of the people of Afghanistan. The EU’s ultimate goal, the new Ambassador asserted, is to contribute to building peace and stability for the wellbeing of Afghan society.
