On December 15, at the Kassaï camp in Bangui, a ceremony marked the ending of the training of the 1st Territorial Infantry Battalion (BIT 1) of the Central African Armed Forces (FACA) by the instructors of the European Union Training Mission in Central African Republic (EUTM RCA).
The military ceremony was honoured by the presence of the highest political authorities in the Central African Republic (CAR), headed by the President, Mr Faustin-Archange Touadéra, and with him all government ministers led by the Prime Minister, Mr. Sarandji. The ceremony, led by Deputy Chief of Defence Staff Colonel Yacoub, paid tribute to the men and women of the BIT 1 battalion formed by the EUTM RCA during the last seven months.
At this major milestone for the FACA, the commander of the EUTM RCA, Spanish Major-General Fernando García Blázquez, delivered a reconstruction diploma to the commander of the BIT 1, Captain Gambi, followed by a speech recalling the importance of discipline and trust in leaders.
The reconstruction of the FACA, is considered as one of the priorities by the highest political authorities in CAR, and expresses the national will to thoroughly reform the means of defence and security.
The EUTM RCA has implemented the training of the staff of the battalion and its three infantry companies, focusing on the restoration of tactical assets, combat fire, physical fitness, combat rescue but also international humanitarian law. This unit is now reflecting the democratic aspirations of the country through soldiers that can guarantee the national sovereignty and the protection of life and personal liberty in CAR.
The support of the instructors of the EUTM RCA also made it possible to strengthen the cohesion in this unit, which is now a symbol of the ongoing reconstruction of the FACA.
EUTM RCA trained the soldiers of the 1st Territorial Infantry Battalion with the main objective of re-establishing a coherent military structure that is able to fulfil and perform future operational missions in the field.
