Reflecting the strong relations between the EU's and NATO's missions in Iraq, EUAM Iraq's Human Rights and Gender Adviser participated in NATO's first ever conference for gender advisers as a panelist on inter-organisational cooperation.

The Operations Division at NATO Headquarters Brussels, in cooperation with the Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary General for Women, Peace and Security, hosted the first ever NATO Headquarters' Gender Advisors Conference on Friday 25 January 2019.

EUAM Iraq’s Human Rights and Gender Adviser joined the NATO Mission Iraq’s Gender Adviser for the event and served on a discussion panel with the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan, to facilitate a discussion with gender advisers operating in other international organisations and operations outside of NATO. This provided a unique opportunity to exchange views on best practices and lessons identified/learned as well as to create connections throughout the gender community. Senior NATO officials attended the conference, including the Assistant Secretary General/Operations, the Secretary General’s Special Representative for Women, Peace and Security as well as the Director General of the International Military Staff.
