The EU Delegation in Strasbourg is part of an extended network of more than 140 EU Delegations and Offices operating around the world. Inaugurated in January 2011, the Delegation has since served as the permanent diplomatic representation of the European Union to the Council of Europe.

Our mission is to advance the interests of the Union and its 27 Member States within the Council of Europe while joining forces with Council of Europe bodies and institutions to promote human rights, the rule of law and democracy on the European continent. Our actions and initiatives on the ground always aim to provide concrete benefits to our citizens, in line with our core values and principles.

OUR WORK

The EU Delegation in Strasbourg pursues the following main tasks:

Steering inter-institutional dialogue and establishing the best possible coordination between the EU and the Council of Europe.
Representing the EU in the Committee of Ministers – the Council of Europe's decision-making body – as well as in rapporteur groups, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, expert groups and various formal or informal negotiations and consultations.
Fostering EU coordination and common EU positions in these fora and promote cooperation with the Member States in the Council of Europe framework.
Following the work of the Council of Europe in relevant areas and providing accurate and timely political reporting and analysis back to Brussels.
Supporting policy-making in Brussels in respect of Council of Europe-related issues.
Enhancing the visibility and understanding of the European Union's role and policies in the areas related to the Council of Europe.

As Head of Delegation, Ambassador Vesna Batistić Kos is the permanent and principal representative of the EU vis-à-vis the Council of Europe. Her role is to promote EU unity, visibility and effectiveness within the Council of Europe.
