The EU Delegation to the UN in Geneva, together with the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs, organised a panel discussion on 7 December concerning the EU Council Decision in support of the Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention (BTWC). The side-event took place in the margins of the Meeting of States Parties of the Convention at the Palais des Nations. It provided an opportunity to present the results of EU-sponsored activities and inform interested States Parties of the EU's upcoming assistance activities of which they can benefit over the next year.

On 29 March the EU Delegation to the UN in Geneva hosted a workshop with experts from EU Member States and international organisations on the EU extended assistance programme for the universalisation and implementation of the Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention (BTWC). The aim of the one-day workshop was to stimulate a discussion on best practices and preparations for assistance activities in partner countries to enhance their domestic implementation of the BTWC and to ensure bio-safety and bio-security.
