New Round of EU-Belarus Human Rights Dialogue to Take Place in Minsk (06/06/2016)

A European Union delegation led by Thomas Mayr-Harting, Managing Director for Europe and Central Asia of the European External Action Service, arrived in Minsk. Today the delegation will meet Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei and Deputy Foreign Minister Alena Kupchyna, as well as the presidential aide on foreign policy, to discuss EU-Belarus relations.  They will also meet with representatives of the civil society, the political opposition, and the international community. 


On 7 June the European Union and the Republic of Belarus will hold the third round of their bilateral Human Rights Dialogue. It will be for the first time that EU-Belarus human rights talks will take place in Minsk. During the talks, the parties will address the human rights situations in both Belarus and the European Union. They will also discuss cooperation in promoting human rights in international fora, including with UN mechanisms such as the Universal Periodic Review.
