European Council Extends the Mandate of the EUBAM Rafah On Thursday 2 June 2015, the Council has extended the mandate of the EU border assistance mission for the Rafah crossing point (EU BAM Rafah) until 30 June 2016.

EUBAM Rafah concludes first high level seminar for PA Agency for Borders and Crossings The European Union Border Assistance Mission for the Rafah Crossing Point, EUBAM Rafah, conducted the first high-level seminar for senior Officers from the Palestinian Authority General Administration for Borders and Crossings (GABC) to enhance their capabilities on project management.

What is EU BAM Rafah?

After Israel's unilateral disengagement from the Gaza Strip in summer 2005, the Agreement on Movement and Access was signed by the Palestinian authorities. It contains a series of agreed principles for passing the Rafah (Gaza) crossing point. Under the agreement, the crossing point was supposed to be under the joint control of Israel, the Palestinian Authority and a third party: a role that was taken by the European Union following the Decision of the Council of the EU taken on 1 November 2005.
