Pilot Project - Transatlantic Methods for Handling Global Challenges
In December 2007, the European Commission signed agreements with 5 organisations following the first Pilot Project for ‘transatlantic methods for handling common global challenges’ call for proposals. Grants totalling € 2.3 million will be allocated over 18 months, closing in June 2009. The objective of this project is to promote mutual understanding and learning among EU and US policy researchers and policymakers on a number of challenges with a global dimension. The challenges targeted in 2007 were: 1) bio-safety/biodiversity, 2) arctic marine environment policy, 3) safety of nanotechnologies, 4) enforcement of intellectual property rights, 5) reconstruction following natural disasters and 6) justice and home affairs.
The following 5 proposals covering 5 different topics were awarded a grant:
