The most recent terrorist attacks in northern Mali, in particular at Kidal and near Timbuktu, took the lives of members of the United Nations Integrated Stabilisation Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) and of the Malian armed forces.
Such acts of violence, the latest in a series of attacks over recent months, aim to undermine the implementation of the Peace Agreement signed on 20 June 2015 and to prevent the return of peace to all regions of Mali. The perpetrators of these acts must be brought to justice.
The European Union would like to offer its deepest condolences to the families and friends of the victims and reiterates its full support for MINUSMA in its vital mission in Mali.
It also expresses its full solidarity with Mali and with the parties to the Peace Agreement in their objective of implementing this agreement and enabling the people of northern Mali to live in peace and stability.
The European Union stands united with Mali and the other Sahel countries in the fight against terrorism and is ready to provide its full support.
