Today, the HR/VP Federica Mogherini met the President of the Republic of Peru, Ollanta Humala Tasso, in Paris and discussed the follow-up to the process of the Schengen Visa Waiver negotiations.
President Humala confirmed the commitment of the Peruvian authorities to proceed rapidly with the introduction of biometric passports of the highest quality and security standards, in order to guarantee an orderly and safe mobility of travellers. President Humala also provided concrete elements in relation to the advancement of the distribution of biometric passports.
All future efforts that will be exercised by the Peruvian government to issue biometric passports to its nationals would allow the swift completion of the negotiations on the Schengen Visa Waiver process. In this regard, HRVP Mogherini stressed that the visa free mobility of people represents an important step in consolidating the close relations between Peru and the European Union.
