Palau joined the African Caribbean Pacific group in 2000, since when it has received €6 million in financial assistance from the European Development Fund (EDF).

For the period 200-2013, under the 10th EDF, the Country Strategy Paper for 2008–13 provides for a budget of €2.9m.

Palau has signed all European Conventions on Human Rights, and is receiving EU support to ratify and implement them.
EU is ready to assist Palau to become eligible for Budget Support.
For the period 2014-2020, under the 11th EDF , an indicative amount of € 1.6 m with focus on the Energy Efficiency / Renewable Energy sector is provided for in the National Indicative Programme signed on 2 September in Samoa [2 MB] .
