    Investment conferences in Moldova and Georgia will be held on the occasion of the visits of European Commission President José Manuel Barroso to those countries on 12 and 13 June 2014 respectively. The European Union has confirmed its objective to further strengthen the political association and economic integration with both countries, and aims to sign the Association Agreements including Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Areas (AA/DCFTAs) no later than June 2014.

The EU is developing an increasingly close relationship with Moldova, going beyond co-operation, to gradual economic integration and a deepening of political co-operation.

Moldova is a partner country within the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP). A joint EU-Moldova ENP Action Plan pdf - 121 KB [121 KB] lays out the strategic objectives based on commitments to shared values and effective implementation of political, economic and institutional reforms.

The EU-Moldova ENP Action Plan is based on the Partnership & Cooperation Agreement (PCA) and encourages and supports Moldova’s objective of further integration into European economic and social structures.

The EU and the Republic of Moldova have finalised negotiations for are currently negotiating an Association Agreement to succeed the PCA. The Association Agreement was initialled by both sides on 29 November 2013 on the occasion of the Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius. The Association Agreement will significantly deepen Moldova’s political association and economic integration with the EU and includes the gradual implementation of a Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area.

EU-Republic of Moldova visa facilitation and readmission agreements entered into force in January 2008 and a wider Mobility Partnership was signed in June 2008. In June 2010 a visa dialogue opened, examining conditions for visa-free travel of Moldovan citizens to the EU as a long-term goal.

Since 2010, the Republic of Moldova is a full member of the Energy Community Treaty.
