Mid-term review of the Thematic Programme 'Cooperation with Third Countries in the areas of Migration and Asylum'

Results from the consultation on the Thematic Programme's implementation and perspectives for the future

Policy field:  International Cooperation in the areas of migration and asylum

Period of consultation:   22/02/2010 to 31/03/2010

Objectives of the Consultation:

The Thematic Programme's current strategy paper, covering the period 2007-2010, must be reviewed to assess whether it still reflects adequately the political priorities and is well adapted to the current international context as regards migratory flows, and to define the programme's multi-annual strategy for the period 2011-2013. Extensive consultation of all the programme's stakeholders, including Member States, European Parliament and civil society, as well as European Commission own research and existing EU policy frameworks, underpins this review.

This consultation among stakeholders outside the European Commission ("external consultation") offered a chance for a reflection on the future orientation of the Thematic Programme, as regards its rationale, scope, strategic objectives and priorities, approach and implementation modalities, by raising a number of issues to be considered in the definition of the new strategy.

Main Results of the Consultation:

The public consultation period was initiated on 22 February 2010 with a closure of written responses on 31 March 2010. A total of 16 contributions were received from a variety of different contributors, including 2 Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), 1 Research Organisation, 6 International Organisations and initiatives and 8 public authority bodies. A Synthesis Paper pdf - 30 KB [30 KB] , organized on the basis of the questions guiding the consultation, presents in an eclectic manner a summary of these contributions.
