The Symposium is jointly organised by the European Commission and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, in cooperation with the European Policy Centre and Japan Foundation.

What is our objective?

At their last Summit in May 2009, EU and Japan leaders agreed to begin reflections on how to replace the 2001 EU-Japan Action Plan once it elapses in 2011, with a view to launching talks at the 2010 Summit.

The purpose of the symposium will be to present current thinking and seek input from a wide range of civil society actors on priorities for the future.

Key players including officials involved in EU-Japan relations, the academic experts appointed by the Japanese government to issue recommendations on the successor to the 2001 Action Plan and the co- chairs of the EU-Japan Business Roundtable will make presentations about future cooperation between the EU and Japan in the fields of global challenges, trade and economics, peace and security, and people-to-people.
