Federica Mogherini meets with Espen Barth Eide, Special Advisor of the UNSG on Cyprus

Federica Mogherini, High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission, met today with Espen Barth Eide, Special Advisor of United Nations Secretary General on Cyprus, in the margins of the UN General Assembly in New York.  Advisor Eide and the High Representative discussed the progress in the ongoing negotiations between President of Cyprus Nikos Anastasiades and the leader of Turkish Cypriot community Mustafa Akinci toward a comprehensive solution of the Cyprus issue.  The European Union is fully supporting the ongoing process, working with the UN to see a comprehensive settlement happening as soon as possible, given its importance not only for Cyprus but also wider security and stability in the region.
