Head of the European Union Delegation praises local artists at colourful ''Freedom Revisited'' competition and exhibition at Gallery Delta (15/09/2011)
The Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation to Zimbabwe, Ambassador Aldo Dell'Ariccia, presided over the opening of the exhibition "Freedom Revisited" at the Gallery Delta on 13 September. The Ambassador has praised local artists for their sterling work and participation in competition and exhibition, sponsored by the Delegation and hosted by the Gallery.
''I am not going to give a speech because I think the wonderful works of art speak for themselves. We wanted to challenge the artists to go beyond their comfort zone to express their understanding of freedom and the results are remarkable'' said Dell'Ariccia before handing out prizes to the winners in various categories.
Keith Zenda and Lance Maduwah Marimo shared the first prize in the painting category for ''Released-Free at Last'' and ''Suspense'' respectively. Sharon Parry won the first prize for her 3-Dimensional work ''Sheilah'' and Munyaradzi Kapfumvuti's ''Freedom Drink'' won the first prize in the Graphics category.
Director of Gallery Delta, Derek Huggins expressed his gratitude to the EU for their continued support to the local art in general and exhibitions in particular.
The exhibition attracted 87 artists who produced 157 art works, 82 of which were selected for the exhibition.
