The Interim Association Agreement, which provides the legal framework for the EU's relations with the Palestinian Authority, is implemented through the following institutional set-up:
In the framework of the European Neighbourhood Policy, the European Commission - Palestinian Authority Joint Committee meets once a year alternating between Ramallah and Brussels. The EU is represented by the Commission and is assisted by the Member States.
The European Commission and the Palestinian Authority established four Sub-Committees under the ENP Joint Committee to follow-up in detail on the implementation of the objectives set out in the EC-PA Joint Action Plan. Currently there are four Sub-Committees dealing with:
- Human rights, good governance and the rule of law
- Economic and financial matters, trade, customs issues
- Social affairs
- Energy, environment, transport, science and technology.
EU-PA Ministerial Troika Meetings and Bilateral Political Dialogue
These meetings provide an opportunity for the EU and the PA to discuss issues of mutual interest with regards to the Middle East Peace Process, the internal Palestinian political situation, human rights, security and European Security and Defence Policy (ESDP).Back to Political and economic relations
