European Union supports the MBA Programme for the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine (22/02/2013)
On February 19th 2013 at 15.30 the Opening Ceremony of the tailor-made MBA Programme for the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving (SAEE) took place at the International Management Institute (IMI-Kyiv). This programme is a part of the EU technical assistance project “Capacity Building of State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine".
“There are all grounds for Ukraine to become one of the key players at the European energy market”, - said Mr. Jan Tombinski, Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine.
The aim of the MBA Programme is to enhance management skills of 24 mid- and top-level officials of the SAEE. The MBA Programme has been specially designed to best fit SAEE's needs while meeting internationally recognized standards. The education will last for 26 months. It includes core MBA courses, specific energy efficiency related courses taught by international experts and one week practical internship in one of EU countries. Upon graduation, the programme participants will contribute to implementing energy efficiency policies at SAEE, strengthening the Agency role thanks to the enhanced qualification of its staff.
The Opening Ceremony commenced with the speeches of Mr. Jan Tombinski, Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine, and Mr. Sergii Dubovyk, Deputy Chairman, SAEE, followed by a press briefing.
The MBA Programme for SAEE is addressing the issue of energy efficiency in Ukraine and can be reviewed and considered at different levels: from the state energy dependence in the country, from the social and political level, and from the level of enterprises, who have to understand and implement the energy management in their activities
The issue of energy efficiency is of a paramount importance in the energy sector. Ukraine and the EU have established a dynamic and intense cooperation to address the energy efficiency challenges, with the aim to improve Ukraine's energy security and Ukraine's economy competitiveness together with providing sustainable energy to Ukraine's consumers.
The SAEE closely cooperates with European Union Delegation to Ukraine in the areas of energy efficiency and renewable energy sources. Currently one of the major tasks on the agenda is to set up an appropriate institutional framework to sustain implementation of the measures agreed in the EU-Ukraine Association Agenda and the Energy Memorandum of Understanding in these areas.
In January 2012 the EU launched the technical assistance Project “Capacity Building of the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine” to strengthen the overall capacity of the SAEE to foster EU-Ukraine cooperation in the area. This project is a part of the Sector Budget Support Programme (SBSP) titled “Support to the implementation of Ukraine's Energy strategy in the area of energy efficiency and renewable sources of energy” signed by the EU and Ukraine in December 2009. The project’s duration is 36 months.
The International Management Institute (IMI-Kyiv) was launched in 1989 as a forerunner of fundamental changes in Ukrainian society and economy. It was created in anticipation of the time, when an independent Ukraine's economy would require individuals having an MBA education, capable of performing and competing successfully in both national and international environments. As a business school, IMI-Kyiv has the privilege of being a pioneer of Ukrainian business education of Ukraine and has faced and successfully resolved unique challenges during its 23-year history.
