EU and Ukraine work together to protect Black Sea (15/02/2013)
The European Commissioner for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Maria Damanaki visited Ukraine on Thursday 14 February to discuss Black Sea regional cooperation. In Kyiv, Ms Damanaki met with the Ukrainian Prime Minister, H.E. Mr Mykola Azarov, Minister of Ecology, H.E. Mr Oleh Proskuriakov, Deputy Minister for Infrastructures, H.E. Mr Volodymyr Korniienko, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Andrii Olefirov,and the Chairman of the State Agency for Fisheries, Mr.Victor Dronyk.
After her meeting with Prime Minister Azarov, Commissioner Damanaki said: "We cannot implement a coherent policy in the Black Sea without the cooperation of our neighbours."
"The Black Sea can offer a lot of prosperity, and we can grasp it if everyone is on board," she underlined. "And of course everything will be easier if the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement will be signed in November," she added.
Commissioner Damanaki concluded: "This is a common challenge. I look forward to working closely with Ukraine in the following months."
