Head of the EETO, Frederic Laplanche's response to the international review process of Taiwan's human rights reports (01/03/2013)

For the European Union, the development of Taiwan's democracy and human rights is worth praising, supporting and cherishing. Of course, there still room for improvement on the protection of human rights, in the EU as in Taiwan, and for example we advocate progress on the issue of the death penalty. Nonetheless, Taiwan's implementation of the provisions of the two international human rights covenants, the drafting of the human rights reports, and the review process of those reports by the international panels are very positive. We are also very happy to see that substantial conclusions have been made as the result of this process, which will no doubt benefit the development of Taiwan's human rights protection.
