Promotion of community based employment projects is the only way to re-integrate crisis-affected groups and give them a sense of belonging. So far, 1 700 people (70% women) from the poorer sections of society have been recruited via the ILO programme
The EC has been helping pastoral farmers to address water shortages in north-east Somalia. Pastoral associations have been set-up and farmers receive regular training. Also, grazing lands can receive water more regularly via new water infrastructure.
The aim of the project is to contribute to overall poverty reduction in the selected districts of Puntland and Somaliland. Specifically the action wishes to increase access to sustainable and reliable energy services by the rural populations.
