European Union Visitors Programme (EUVP)

Under the European Union Visitors Programme (EUVP), young leaders from outside the European Union are invited on a five-day individual working visit to Brussels as guests of the European Parliament and the European Commission. A tour to a European Parliament session in Strasbourg can be added to the programme for those participants who are involved in legislative activities and have a clear interest in the work of the European Parliament.

The programme aims to give participants an opportunity to gain thorough first-hand information and a better understanding of the European Union and its activities. To this end, meetings are set up with officials of the EU Institutions, Belgian authorities, and other institutions and organisations as required.

Costs relating to accommodation, travel, daily allowances, and health and accident insurance are met in full by the EU. The Delegation of the European Union provides visa support to participants and sends a note verbale to the Embassy of Belgium with a request to issue a Schengen visa for participants in the EUVP programme.

Candidates are selected in the following way:

Step 1: European Union Delegations around the world make up a short-list of candidates.

Step 2: a committee comprising officials from the European Parliament and the European Commission draws up a final list on the basis of these proposals. At present, 5 Russian candidates are selected each year.

Those interested in taking part in the programme should fill in the enclosed application form and submit it together with a cover letter to the Delegation of the European Union to Russia.

Important note: Selection of candidates starts in February of the year preceding the year of the planned EUVP visit. The final decision is taken by the EUVP Secretariat in Brussels in September.
