Welcome from the Head of Delegation
Welcome to the website of the Delegation of the European Union to Russia. It is a great honour and privilege to represent European Union in such important times both for the EU and Russia.
With the entry into force of Lisbon Treaty on December 1st, the Institutions of the EU will undergo great changes: new posts and new institutions will emerge in order to make European Union more effective in particular in the international arena. This is something that will positively impact on relations with the Russian Federation which remains one of key strategic partners of the European Union.
In our bilateral relations, the negotiations on a new EU-Russia Framework Agreement, which will replace the current Partnership and Cooperation Agreement, is the most important task. The new agreement will bring a necessary update of the bilateral agenda in light with the current breadth and depth of relations.
The European Union and the Russian Federation are bound by close ties of partnership in economic and trade, energy, scientific cooperation, education, investment, transport, environment and climate change just to name a few areas.
During last few years the European Union hasinvested more and more into cooperation in the field of research, education, and projects for youth. Through our contacts we are increasingly aware of the need for providing possibilities for contacts, exchanges in all fields across the European Union and Russia.
In order to meet these needs, we set up interactive internet resources with an aim to give a voice and a platform for these exchanges. I invite you to find out more about the European Union, its relations with Russia, but also about the exciting opportunities for academic exchanges, possibilities for cooperation or twinning: Europulse, Study in Europe, EU Study Weeks, Europe Day.
Thank you for visiting us and for your interest. We would be happy to receive your suggestions and answer your questions. Your opinion is very important for us as it helps to make this site more useful and user-friendly.
Fernando M. Valenzuela,
Ambassador, Head of the Delegation of the European Union
