Institutional framework

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) was born on 16 November 1945. Its objective is broad and ambitious: peace building in the spirit of men through education, science, culture and communication. UNESCO’s actions can therefore be counted in the fields of education, natural and exact sciences, social sciences, culture, communication and information.

The aim of the Organization is to contribute to peace and safety keeping by reinforcing – through education, science and culture – the collaboration between Nations. This aim should ensure universal respect of justice, law, human rights and of the fundamental freedoms recognized to all people by the United Nations Charter, without distinction of race, sex, language or religion.
