EU/NZ Joint Announcement at the Pacific Energy Summit

Commissioner Piebalgs and Minister McCully have agreed today to work together to turn our pledges into joint work, hand-in-hand with our partners in the region, to rapidly deliver real projects on the ground providing renewable electricity to citizens. For example, by supporting Kiribati to convert to renewable energy, as well as investing in renewable projects in Samoa, the Cook Islands and across the region.  Indeed, examples of these projects will be presented here at the Summit. Such projects will provide security, sustainability and cost savings to business and consumers.

This partnership will be implemented in the form of joint projects with our Partners over the coming years. We are committed that the first phase of these projects should be under way in the next two years.
