Welcome

Welcome Message from the Head of Delegation

EU Ambassador to Nepal, Ms. Rensje Teerink

Dear visitor,

Welcome to the website of the Delegation of the European Union to Nepal. The website is intended as an important information-sharing portal to bring the European Union closer to the Nepalese public. It presents the European Union's objectives and activities in Nepal and our priorities  for contributing to the country's development. Through our website we also inform Nepalese citizens on the most important news regarding developments in the European Union.

In its six decades of existence, the European Union has worked to promote economic prosperity, social inclusion and taken ahead the task of setting up democratic and accountable institutions both within and outside Europe. Working around shared principles of democracy, respect for liberties and human rights, the EU family and its 28 Member States is the world's largest donor of development and humanitarian assistance.

In the context of Nepal, the European Union has been focussing mainly on three sectors: education, peace and stability, and trade facilitation and economic capacity building. Apart from these three sectors, we are also active in areas as varied as the protection and promotion of human rights, food security, conservation of the environment, safe migration, assisting to ensure transparent and effective public finance management, and introducing sustainable production and consumption practices. We are also working with the Government of Nepal and local communities in disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation and mitigation.

We are proud to assist Nepal in achieving the Millennium Development Goals. Although Nepal is on its way to achieving most of the MDGs, there is no room for complacency and efforts need to be doubled towards achieving those MDGs that have fallen short of target. Continued and closer cooperation between the European Union and Nepal will be needed to achieve these all important goals and find common solutions to increasingly complex global issues that affect people both in Nepal and in Europe.

Irrespective of the areas in which we are  working, be it together with the Government of Nepal or with civil society partners, our aim is to contribute towards improving the economic and social status of the most marginalised and vulnerable Nepalese citizens. We believe in a prosperous and democratic Nepal and plan to continue and reinforce our support for it in the coming years.

I invite you to visit our website frequently and hope it will help you to gain a better understanding of the European Union and its numerous activities in Nepal.

H.E. Rensje Teerink
