11/06/13 - Joint Committees at high level officials are held once a year.
The XII meeting of the EU- Mexico Joint Committee took place in Mexico City on the 10- 11th June 2013 in the framework of the Global Agreement. The objective of the Committee is to further deepen the political dialogue, to strengthen coordination at multilateral level, to identify new areas of cooperation and to facilitate bilateral trade. Discussions focused on multiple areas of common interest such as social cohesion, human rights, sustainable economy and competitiveness, energy, environment and climate change, science and technology, education and culture, information technology, as well as regional development.

Ambassador Marie Anne Coninsx met with students of the primary school "Ricardo García Zamudio."During the event, the Ambassador talked with the children and explained to them what the European Union is and what her role is in Mexico.The children received her with songs and typical folklore dances.

30/05/13 - European Union Economic and Trade Counsellors travel to the State of Aguascalientes
A Group of Economic and Commercial Counsellors of the European Union Delegation in Mexico, and of the European Union Member States' Embassies held a working visit in the state of Aguascalientes on the 23rd and the 24th of May 2013, with the purpose of gaining a deeper insight on the current situation of the State, especially with regard to business opportunities.

Ambassador Marie Anne Coninsx participated in the inauguration of a three day event organised by the Universidad Veracruzana that seeks to simulate negotiations in the European Parliament.

Ambassadors of the European Union member states', together with the European Union Ambassador in Mexico, carried out a working trip to Playa del Carmen from the 15th to the the 17th of May 2013.
15/05/13 - Launch of the "Latin American Alliance of Local Authorities for International Relations and Decentralised Cooperation" (AL-LAS) project.
The Ambassador of the European Union in Mexico, Marie-Anne Coninsx, the Mayor of Mexico City, Miguel Ángel Mancera and the International Relations General Coordinator of the City Council, Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas Solórzano, presided over the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Government of Mexico City and the European Union. As part of the same agreement, both parties launched the "Latin American Alliance of Local Authorities for International Relations and Decentralised Cooperation" (AL-LAS) project.

05/04/13 - European Union Budget and Financial Programming Commissioner visits Mexico
The European Union Budget and Financial Programming Commissioner Janusz Lewandowski, visited Mexico during the first days of April. During his stay, the Commissioner addressed participants at a conference in the Mexican Stock Exchange entitled "Governments and financial markets in the face of the world crisis- the case of Poland and Mexico" his presentation focused on the "New Architecture of the Eurozone".During the conference, Ambassador of the European Union delivered a speech on the economic relations and Mexico in the context of the global economy.

The Ambassador of the European Union, Marie Anne Coninsx met with the Minister of Environment, Juan José Guerra Abud. During the meeting, both sides presented the respective priorities in the fields of environment and climate change of the EU and Mexico and coincided in finding a strong convergence in both challenges to come in those areas and strategies to address them.

The President of the European Parliament, Mr. Martin Schulz met with the President of the Mexican Senate, Senator Ernesto Cordero Arroyo, and the Directive Board of the Senate as well as with Members of the European Union- Mexico Joint Parliamentary Committee. He then proceeded to speak before the Plenary in a solemn session.
12/02/13 - The President of the European Parliament meets President Enrique Peña Nieto
On Monday 11th of February, the President of the European parliament, Mr. Martin Schulz held a private meeting with the Mexican president, Mr. Enrique Peña Nieto. Mr. Schulz's trip represents the third time that a President of the European Parliament has visited Mexico, the last one being one which was held in the year 2000. Elected for a two and a half year mandate by the European Members of Parliament, the President of the European Parliament had a key role in that he presides over the institutions activities, over the plenary sessions and signs the European Union budget, and the laws adopted by the Council. He represents Parliament in International Relations and in its dealings with other EU Institutions. The President of the European parliament therefore holds a status of that of a head of state or government.

In the margins of the European Union CELAC Summit that took place in Santiago de Chile on the 26- 27th January, the President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy together with the President of the European Commission , José Manuel Barroso met with the Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto.
23/01/13 - Celebration of the Fiftieth Anniversary of the Elyseum Treaty on Franco German Friendship
On the 22nd January 1963, the federal Chancellor of Germany, Mr. Konrad Adenauer and the President of the French Republic Charles de Gaulle, signed the Elyseum Treaty. It was not only a sign of reconciliation but an act under which a new friendship between both countries was founded. Currently, the intensity of cooperation between France and Germany is unparalleled in the world. After fifty years, these two countries coordinate their actions in almost every political aspect and assume in this context a particular responsibility for the future of Europe.To honour the Fiftieth Anniversary of the Elyseum Treaty, the Governments of both countries have agreed to designate the Franco- German Year (from September 2012 to July 2013).

On 11 January 2013, Ambassador Marie-Anne Coninsx was special guest at the new year's reception of the Rotary Club in Tongeren - her home town in Belgium. In the presence among others of the district governor of the Rotary Club and the Maire / Bourgemestre of Tongeren, she explained the importance of the European Union, why it had gotten the Nobel Peace Price - for its internal achievements but also for its action internationally -, and addressed in this context, the strategic partnership that the EU has with Mexico.

In the Framework of the International Book Fair 2012 in Guadalajara, the Ambassador of the European Union Ms. Marie-Anne Coninsx participated in the inauguration of the "Festival of the European Letters".
27/11/12 - Exploring Europe at UNAM's Prepa 4
In the framework of the project to foster relations between UNAM's high schools and the European Union Delegation in Mexico, Ambassador Marie Anne Coninsx, inaugurated "Exploring Europe Days," three days full of activities that have the objective of bringing 15- 18 year old students closer to the reality of countries in the European Union.During the inauguration ceremony, Ambassador Coninsx highlighted the timeliness of the event, given that next 10th of December the European Union will be receiving the Nobel Peace Prize. Furthermore she explained why and how the European Union integration project had come to life, and how it benefits European citizens. After the inauguration ceremony, Ambassador Coninsx was shown an exhibit on EU Member States, set up by the students. The students also offered a classical music concert.

The meeting focused on the work of the European Union and its Member States on environmental issues, green growth, energy efficiency, and biodiversity where participants presented their bilateral and multilateral cooperation projects in Mexico.

28/09/12 - Ambassador Marie Anne Coninsx was present at the launching ceremony of the Competitiveness and Innovation Programme (PROCEI) European Union-Mexico in the state of Chihuahua.
Through this project the EU seeks to support small and medium enterprises in Mexico. In Chihuahua, specifically the project aims to support the metal manufacturing and aerospace sectors. At least a hundred small and medium enterprises will be directly benefitted by the programme.

During the months of May and June this year, the Delegation of the European Union in Mexico with the collaboration of European Union Member States Ambassadors and the Mexican Education Ministry launched a programme in order to highlight 9th of May "Europe Day" known as "Ambassadors Back to School." The programme aimed to involve high school students and teachers at a personal level and in this way deepen their understanding about the European Union and it Member States.

Meeting with the Governor of the State of Mexico Ambassador Marie Anne Coninsx and the Governor of the State of Mexico, Mr. Eruviel Ávila held a first official meeting where they discussed the deepening of relations in several fields, such as political, economic and trade issues, as well as in the education sector, among others. They also discussed the possibility of organizing a visit to the State of Mexico in the near future where EU Member States' Ambassadors would participate.

Mr. László Andor EU Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion participates in the G20 Labour and Employment Minister’s Meeting held in Guadalajara, Mexico May 17–18th. During his participation in the Youth employment panel Mr. Andor highlighted the importance of sending a clear message about putting the quality employment, in particular for youth, and the social dimension high up the agenda at the forthcoming Los Cabos Summit of G20 Leaders.
15/05/12 - Ambassadors Back to School
In the Framework of the 9th of May celebrations, the EU Delegation invited the EU Member States' Embassies to participate in an unprecedented project in Mexico known as "Ambassadors Back to School".The objective is that during two months (May and June), European diplomats visit various high schools in Mexico City to tell the students about European history and the EU integration process.Finland's Ambassador was the first to start the cycle, on the 16th of May with a talk to nursery students at the Conalep, Coyoacán.

The European Commission Vice President, Mr. Antonio Tajani, responsible for industry and business policy, including tourism was present at the 4th Tourism Ministerial Meeting (T20), in Merida, Yucatan.This meeting forms part of the preparations leading up to the G20 Leader's Summit that will take place in Los Cabos, Baja California Sur, on 18-19th June. Its objective is the definition of proposals to foster visitors' mobility and job creation through the tourism industry at a global level.In his speech, Mr. Tajani touched upon the issue of "the impact of the facilitation of visas in job creation in the tourism sector".

From 09th-12th May the Political and Economic Counsellors of the European Union Memeber State Embassies and from The EU Delegation in Mexico visited Baja California with the objective of learning more about the political and economic situation in the State. During the visit, the Counsellors had the opportunity to meet in particular with the Governor of Baja California, members of the local Congress the Judiciary and representatives of the private sector.

24/04/12 - First meeting of the EU Mexico Joint Group to monitor and control Precursors and chemical substances.
The European Union and Mexico held on April 23 in Mexico City its first meeting of the Working Group to monitor the implementation of the Cooperation Agreement regarding the control of precursors and chemical substances frequently used in the illicit manufacture of narcotic drugs or psychotropic substances. Both sides exchanged important information in order to further develop the scientific and technical cooperation in the framework of this Agreement.

Pangratis, the EU representative at the WTO in Geneva, represented the European Union in the G20 Trade Ministers meeting that took place in Puerto Vallarta (Mexico), under the Mexican Chairmanship on 18 to 20 April 2012. In a frank and productive dialogue the G20 representatives discussed on the functioning of the global production chains and their impact in the international trade, as well as on growth and employment. They also agreed on the need to make a strong pledge against protectionism and advance on the WTO negotiations.

The Delegation of the European Union (EU) in Mexico opened its doors for a realization of Second Negotiation Model of the Council of the European Union, whose subject was the accession of Iceland to the EU. This project is a joint initiative of the Delegation and the Center for European Studies of the UNAM University. The aim of the event is to deepen the students´ knowledge on the European Union integration process, as well as to strengthen the debate and negotiation skills on international issues. More than 70 students from 12 institutions of Higher Education in Mexico participated in the negotiations.

The objective of the meeting was to exchange views on the current situation in Mexico prior to the first EU-Mexico High Level Dialogue on Security and Justice which will take place on the 15th of July in Brussels, Belgium. The discussions focussed on the national security strategy, the challenges of the fight against organized crime and the protection mechanisms for human rights defenders and journalists.

The training programme that begins today, with the support of Cinvestav, is important to strenghten researchers' and Mexican enterprises' participation in European projects. 20/05/11 - Mexico received from the 18th – 20th May, a delegation of the European Parliament Human rights Sub-Committee, headed by Richard Howitt (RU, S&D).
During the tree day visit, the delegation undertook an intensive programme which included meetings with the Mexican government, legislators, the Human Rights Commission, Human Rights organizations and journalists. The delegation also conducted a field visit to Oaxaca in order to study the existing challenges in the area of human rights.

On 1 February, the EU Head of Delegation, Ambassador Coninsx, participated at the inauguration ceremony of the new elected Governor in Puebla, Rafael Moreno Valle Rosas and had the opportunity to congratulate and wish him all success. Ms Coninsx used the occasion to visit a major European investment in Puebla, the Volkswagen plant in the capital city of Puebla. Nearly 17.000 staff are currently employed at the Volkswagen plant, to which around 50.000 people are indirectly employed through the supplier- industries. The Volkswagen Group is building a new engine plant in Silao, in the State of Guanajuato, which is designed for an annual capacity of producing 330.000 engines.
