During a 2 day working visit the eu Head of Delegation and the EU member state's Ambassadors, met with the Governor of Aguascalientes, Mr. Carlos Lozano de la Torre. Furthermore, they met with Dr. Eduardo Sojo, President of the National Institute for Statistics and geography (INEGI), as well as with the industry in the state.

The Trade and Economic Councillors of the European Union Member states and of the European Union Delegation in Mexico undertook a working visit to the state of Jalisco on the 29th-30th January in order to acquire first-hand knowledge of the current situation of the state, specifically related to business opportunities.

The European Union Delegation in Mexico, UNAM and CONACYT inaugurated the information session which aimed to explain the functioning of the new framework programme of the European Union –Horizon 2020 which specializes in research and innovation in the Social Sciences.
Mr. Stephan Vavrik, Deputy Head of the Delegation of the EU to Mexico, took part in a workshop dealing with sustainable agriculture and climate change organised by EUROCLIMA regional programme. During the event, the discussion focused on sustainable agriculture, droughts, and desertification, and its connection to climate change.
08/08/14 - Erasmus Mundus Pre-departure gathering
Ambassador Andrew Standley welcomed students from the Erasmus Mundus higher education programme to the Delegation of the European Union. Both alumni and scholars who will study in different EU destinations in the next academic term participated during the event. After the welcome message and award ceremony for scholars, the alumni and the new Erasmus Mundus students shared experiences and talked with the Ambassador, their professors and acquaintances. We wish great success to all scholars that will start this new experience, which will let them live the reality of European integration through education and cultural exchange.
01/08/14 - European Union and the government of the state of Oaxaca Foster Human Rights, Gender Equality and Access to Information
On July 30th the Local Advising Committee of the Social Cohesion Laboratory I was established in the city of Oaxaca. The state governor Gabino Cué, the Head of Cooperation Section at the EU Delegation to Mexico Juan Garay Amores, as well as authorities from the Mexican Agency for Cooperation and Development (AMEXCID) and the technical assistance were present for the launching of the project.
28/07/14 - The European Union and the French Development Agency reassert their commitment with rural sustainable development in Mexico
The Latin American Investment Facility, a European Union regional programme, awarded a 5 million euro grant (approx. 6.7 million dollars) which will complement an ambitious loan programme financed by the French Development Agency with 36.1 million euro whose objective is to reduce the vulnerability of the farming, rural and fisheries sectors and to fight against climate change.

The Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market (OHIM) and the Delegation of the EU to Mexico held a meeting with key actors on intellectual property, with the objective of promoting the activities of the European Observatory on Infringement of Intellectual Property Rights.
European Union Political Councillors' visited Chiapas with the objective of deepening their knowledge on the political, social, regional and economic reality of the state.
EU Ambassador to Mexico Andrew Standley took part in the International Seminar on Designations of Origin and Sustainable Development organized by the Tequila Regulator Council in the framework of its 20th anniversary. Ambassador Standley moderated the panel "la Economía de las Indicaciones Geográficas" (The Economics of the Geographical Indications), in which panellists representing European and Latin American geographical indications elaborated on the topic.
Ambassador Andrew Standley was invited as guest speaker at the Franco Mexican Chamber of Commerce monthly meeting.
During his official visit to Monterrey on June 1-2, Ambassador Andrew Standley held meetings with a number of state authorities, among which his reunions with Governor of the state of Nuevo León Rodrigo Medina De La Cruz and with the state's Attorney-General Adrián Garza are worth highlighting.
The Ambassador Andrew Standley inaugurated the " European days" in the University of Veracruz with the participation of hundreds of students coming from various Universities of different Mexican States. During his visit, he held meetings with the Dean of the University of Veracruz, academics, as well as representatives of the business sector. Furthermore, he gave a speech on trade opportunities between the European Union and Mexico.
The Deputy Head of Delegation Stephan Vavrik presented in a press conference the cultural programme "Europa Joven", whose objective is to involve children to the diversity of Europe through the music, dance, theatre and cinema. EU Delegation cooperates with various Governmental cultural Authorities together with the Member States´ Embassies of Germany, Austria, Belgium, Spain, France, Ireland, Poland, UK, Check Republic and Sweden.
EU Ambassador to Mexico, Andrew Standley inaugurated the Europe Day Concert celebrated in the framework of the Cultural Fair of Mexico City. With the cooperation of various Member States` Embassies, a very successful and varied concert was presented by gifted artists from Greece, Ireland, Spain, Belgium, Portugal and Germany. Thousands of people had the opportunity to enjoy a very rich cultural programme that demonstrates the cultural diversity of Europe.
The European Union celebrates the tenth anniversary of its fifth enlargement in the Matías Romero Institute. Ambassador Andrew Standley accompanied by heads of mission of Poland, Hungary, Cyprus, Slovakia and the Czech Republic spoke about the impact that the European Union has had on the lives of citizens.

26/04/14 - VI European Union Rally
The VI European Union Rally took place on the 26th of April. On this occasion it focused on the" Tenth Anniversary of Eastern enlargement". The rally is organised by the European Study Centre which belongs to the Political Science Faculty at UNAM. The event seeks to foster knowledge on the EU among university students through several activities that have to be achieved in order to advance in the game.
European Commissioner for Development Andris Piebalgs, participated in the first high level event of the Global Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation, hosted by Mexico, 15-16th April 2014.
During the event, the Commissioner presented a new report on progress made by the EU and its Member States on development effectiveness since the Busan High Level Forum, two and a half years ago. Findings of this study show that the EU and its Member States are frontrunners in terms of improving transparency, and that they have also reduced fragmentation of aid delivery, through working on Joint Programming in over 40 partner countries.

On 18 March, the fourth bilateral High-Level Dialogue on Human Rights between the EU and Mexico took place in Brussels. The EU and Mexico reaffirmed their shared values and common vision based on a strong and mature relationship in the field of human rights. Both parties agree to strengthen cooperation in this area.

In the framework of the project to foster relations between UNAM's high schools and the European Union Delegation in Mexico, Ambassador Andrew Standley, inaugurated "Exploring Europe Days," three days full of activities that have the objective of bringing 15- 18 year old students closer to the reality of countries in the European Union. Students participated in swimming, gymnastics and football contests, as well as literature, poetry, virtual knowledge rally, as well as they elaborated European food export projects. Pupils also participated in lectures given by the EU delegation staff.

The XII meeting of the EU- Mexico Joint Committee took place in Mexico City on the 10- 11th June 2013 in the framework of the Global Agreement. The objective of the Committee is to further deepen the political dialogue, to strengthen coordination at multilateral level, to identify new areas of cooperation and to facilitate bilateral trade. Discussions focused on multiple areas of common interest such as social cohesion, human rights, sustainable economy and competitiveness, energy, environment and climate change, science and technology, education and culture, information technology, as well as regional development.
From 10-11th June 2013, the XII of the Joint Committee between the European Union and Mexico is taking place in Mexico City.

08/03/13 - European Union Ambassador in Mexico meets students of the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla
Ambassador Marie-Anne Coninsx adressed students of International Relations from the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla. During her speech, Ambassador Coninsx spoke of the strength of the European Union as a global actor and of the Nobel Peace prize that the Norwegian Committee decided to award to the European Union.
The Ambassador of the European Union, Marie Anne Coninsx met with the Minister of Environment, Juan José Guerra Abud. During the meeting, both sides presented the respective priorities in the fields of environment and climate change of the EU and Mexico and coincided in finding a strong convergence in both challenges to come in those areas and strategies to address them.
The President of the European Parliament, Mr. Martin Schulz met with the President of the Mexican Senate, Senator Ernesto Cordero Arroyo, and the Directive Board of the Senate as well as with Members of the European Union- Mexico Joint Parliamentary Committee. He then proceeded to speak before the Plenary in a solemn session.
On Monday 11th of February, the President of the European parliament, Mr. Martin Schulz held a private meeting with the Mexican president, Mr. Enrique Peña Nieto. Mr. Schulz's trip represents the third time that a President of the European Parliament has visited Mexico, the last one being one which was held in the year 2000. Elected for a two and a half year mandate by the European Members of Parliament, the President of the European Parliament had a key role in that he presides over the institutions activities, over the plenary sessions and signs the European Union budget, and the laws adopted by the Council. He represents Parliament in International Relations and in its dealings with other EU Institutions. The President of the European parliament therefore holds a status of that of a head of state or government.
The President of the European Parliament, Mr. Martin Schulz, gave a key note speech which had as its main topic "Mexico and the European Union: global challenges, democratic solutions".

23/01/13 - Celebration of the Fiftieth Anniversary of the Elyseum Treaty on Franco German Friendship
On the 22nd January 1963, the federal Chancellor of Germany, Mr. Konrad Adenauer and the President of the French Republic Charles de Gaulle, signed the Elyseum Treaty. It was not only a sign of reconciliation but an act under which a new friendship between both countries was founded. Currently, the intensity of cooperation between France and Germany is unparalleled in the world. After fifty years, these two countries coordinate their actions in almost every political aspect and assume in this context a particular responsibility for the future of Europe.To honour the Fiftieth Anniversary of the Elyseum Treaty, the Governments of both countries have agreed to designate the Franco- German Year (from September 2012 to July 2013).
On 11 January 2013, Ambassador Marie-Anne Coninsx was special guest at the new year's reception of the Rotary Club in Tongeren - her home town in Belgium. In the presence among others of the district governor of the Rotary Club and the Maire / Bourgemestre of Tongeren, she explained the importance of the European Union, why it had gotten the Nobel Peace Price - for its internal achievements but also for its action internationally -, and addressed in this context, the strategic partnership that the EU has with Mexico.

In the Framework of the International Book Fair 2012 in Guadalajara, the Ambassador of the European Union Ms. Marie-Anne Coninsx participated in the inauguration of the "Festival of the European Letters".
27/11/12 - Exploring Europe at UNAM's Prepa 4
In the framework of the project to foster relations between UNAM's high schools and the European Union Delegation in Mexico, Ambassador Marie Anne Coninsx, inaugurated "Exploring Europe Days," three days full of activities that have the objective of bringing 15- 18 year old students closer to the reality of countries in the European Union.During the inauguration ceremony, Ambassador Coninsx highlighted the timeliness of the event, given that next 10th of December the European Union will be receiving the Nobel Peace Prize. Furthermore she explained why and how the European Union integration project had come to life, and how it benefits European citizens. After the inauguration ceremony, Ambassador Coninsx was shown an exhibit on EU Member States, set up by the students. The students also offered a classical music concert.
23/11/12 - European Union Counsellors for Environment and Climate Change met Ing. Guerra Abud, Coordinator for Environmental Issues of the Governmental Transition Team to exchange views on this area.
The meeting focused on the work of the European Union and its Member States on environmental issues, green growth, energy efficiency, and biodiversity where participants presented their bilateral and multilateral cooperation projects in Mexico.

28/09/12 - Ambassador Marie Anne Coninsx was present at the launching ceremony of the Competitiveness and Innovation Programme (PROCEI) European Union-Mexico in the state of Chihuahua.
Through this project the EU seeks to support small and medium enterprises in Mexico. In Chihuahua, specifically the project aims to support the metal manufacturing and aerospace sectors. At least a hundred small and medium enterprises will be directly benefitted by the programme.

During the months of May and June this year, the Delegation of the European Union in Mexico with the collaboration of European Union Member States Ambassadors and the Mexican Education Ministry launched a programme in order to highlight 9th of May "Europe Day" known as "Ambassadors Back to School." The programme aimed to involve high school students and teachers at a personal level and in this way deepen their understanding about the European Union and it Member States.

Meeting with the Governor of the State of Mexico Ambassador Marie Anne Coninsx and the Governor of the State of Mexico, Mr. Eruviel Ávila held a first official meeting where they discussed the deepening of relations in several fields, such as political, economic and trade issues, as well as in the education sector, among others. They also discussed the possibility of organizing a visit to the State of Mexico in the near future where EU Member States' Ambassadors would participate.

Mr. László Andor EU Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion participates in the G20 Labour and Employment Minister’s Meeting held in Guadalajara, Mexico May 17–18th. During his participation in the Youth employment panel Mr. Andor highlighted the importance of sending a clear message about putting the quality employment, in particular for youth, and the social dimension high up the agenda at the forthcoming Los Cabos Summit of G20 Leaders.

In the Framework of the 9th of May celebrations, the EU Delegation invited the EU Member States' Embassies to participate in an unprecedented project in Mexico known as "Ambassadors Back to School".The objective is that during two months (May and June), European diplomats visit various high schools in Mexico City to tell the students about European history and the EU integration process.Finland's Ambassador was the first to start the cycle, on the 16th of May with a talk to nursery students at the Conalep, Coyoacán.

The European Commission Vice President, Mr. Antonio Tajani, responsible for industry and business policy, including tourism was present at the 4th Tourism Ministerial Meeting (T20), in Merida, Yucatan.This meeting forms part of the preparations leading up to the G20 Leader's Summit that will take place in Los Cabos, Baja California Sur, on 18-19th June. Its objective is the definition of proposals to foster visitors' mobility and job creation through the tourism industry at a global level.In his speech, Mr. Tajani touched upon the issue of "the impact of the facilitation of visas in job creation in the tourism sector".

Today Mr. Antonio Tajani, Vice President of the European Commission and Commissioner of Industry and Entrepreneurship, met with the Mayor of Mexico City, Marcelo Ebrard who is also the President of the World Mayors Council on Climate Change.
This morning Mr. Antonio Tajani Vice- president of the European Commission and Commissioner of Industry and Entrepreneurship together with a delegation of 23 high level European businessmen met with Mr. Carlos Guzmán Bofill Director General of ProMéxico with the objective of strengthening the economic bilateral relationship with Mexico.
From 09th-12th May the Political and Economic Counsellors of the European Union Memeber State Embassies and from The EU Delegation in Mexico visited Baja California with the objective of learning more about the political and economic situation in the State. During the visit, the Counsellors had the opportunity to meet in particular with the Governor of Baja California, members of the local Congress the Judiciary and representatives of the private sector.

24/04/12 - First meeting of the EU Mexico Joint Group to monitor and control Precursors and chemical substances.
The European Union and Mexico held on April 23 in Mexico City its first meeting of the Working Group to monitor the implementation of the Cooperation Agreement regarding the control of precursors and chemical substances frequently used in the illicit manufacture of narcotic drugs or psychotropic substances. Both sides exchanged important information in order to further develop the scientific and technical cooperation in the framework of this Agreement.
Ambassador A. Pangratis, the EU representative at the WTO in Geneva, represented the European Union in the G20 Trade Ministers meeting that took place in Puerto Vallarta (Mexico), under the Mexican Chairmanship on 18 to 20 April 2012. In a frank and productive dialogue the G20 representatives discussed on the functioning of the global production chains and their impact in the international trade, as well as on growth and employment. They also agreed on the need to make a strong pledge against protectionism and advance on the WTO negotiations.

European Commission's Director General of Agriculture Mr Silva visited Mexico to participate at the G20 deputies meeting of ministers on Agriculture. He used the occasion to give a conference at the ITAM on Food Security and the EU's Common Agricultural Policy.

25/11/11 - Marie-Anne Conisnx, Ambassador of the EU to Mexico chaired the Awards Ceremony of the Second Negotiation Model of Council of European Union
The Delegation of the European Union (EU) in Mexico opened its doors for a realization of Second Negotiation Model of the Council of the European Union, whose subject was the accession of Iceland to the EU. This project is a joint initiative of the Delegation and the Center for European Studies of the UNAM University. The aim of the event is to deepen the students´ knowledge on the European Union integration process, as well as to strengthen the debate and negotiation skills on international issues. More than 70 students from 12 institutions of Higher Education in Mexico participated in the negotiations.
Marie-Anne Coninsx, Ambassador of the EU to Mexico participated together with the Mexican Undersecretary of Multilateral issues and Human Rights, Ambassador Juan Manuel Gómez Robledo in the panel "Climate Change Negotiations: Opportunities and Challenges to Durban" of the "Green Solutions 2011 "Forum. 07/07/11 - Marie Anne Coninsx, Ambassador of the EU to Mexico, together with the EU Member States' Ambassadors met with Mr. Francisco Blake Mora, Minister of the Interior.
The objective of the meeting was to exchange views on the current situation in Mexico prior to the first EU-Mexico High Level Dialogue on Security and Justice which will take place on the 15th of July in Brussels, Belgium. The discussions focussed on the national security strategy, the challenges of the fight against organized crime and the protection mechanisms for human rights defenders and journalists.
In order to promote the EU–Mexico Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and to evaluate its results so far, in the framework of the closing down phase of the cooperation Project for the Facilitation of the EU-Mexico FTA, the EU Delegation in Mexico and the Mexican Ministry of Economy organised the seminar "Facilitating Trade and Business between the EU and Mexico". 09/06/11 - UE donates 2 million euros to Mexico for cooperation programme on sustainable management of forest sector
EU Ambassador to Mexico, Marie- Anne Coninsx participated in an event which seeked to acknowledge Mexican efforts and achievements in actions to decrease emissions resulting from deforestation and forest degradation.On this occasion Mrs. Coninsx signed together with the French and Spanish Ambassadors a financing agreement for a project which aims to fight deforestation in Mexico.The project seeks to guarantee forest protection by generating sustainable production alternatives which allow the maintenance of forest surface and which strengthens local capacities. The training programme that begins today, with the support of Cinvestav, is important to strenghten researchers' and Mexican enterprises' participation in European projects. It will facilitate their participation in the 7th Framework Programme, which is the largest research programme in the world and which has a budget of over fifty thousand million euros.[20 KB]
The Ambassador of the EU in Mexico, Marie Anne Coninsx, took part in the Security session of the Series of Dialogues; Issues of the EU- Mexico Strategic Partnership Agenda organised by the European Studies Programme of FES Acatlán, UNAM and the Friedrich Ebert Foundation in Mexico, jointly with the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Lower Chamber in the Mexican Congress.
20/05/11 - Mexico received from the 18th – 20th May, a delegation of the European Parliament Human rights Sub-Committee, headed by Richard Howitt (RU, S&D).
During the tree day visit, the delegation undertook an intensive programme which included meetings with the Mexican government, legislators, the Human Rights Commission, Human Rights organizations and journalists. The delegation also conducted a field visit to Oaxaca in order to study the existing challenges in the area of human rights.

The European Union Delegation organized on May 14th for the third consecutive year together with the UNAM University an EU Rally for Students.
On the occasion of Europe's day, commemorated on the 09th of May, the European Union Delegation in Mexico organised a cocktail party to celebrate together with the diplomatic Corps. and friends of the European Union. Ambassador Marie Anne Coninsx highlighted in her speech the success of European integration and the close relationship between the European Union and Mexico. To conclude, she invited the participants to visit the photo exhibition of European Member states which has just been inaugurated in Plaza Loreto.

02/02/11 - Ambassador Marie-Anne Coninsx, participated at the inauguration ceremony of the new elected Governor in Puebla.
On 1 February, the EU Head of Delegation, Ambassador Coninsx, participated at the inauguration ceremony of the new elected Governor in Puebla, Rafael Moreno Valle Rosas and had the opportunity to congratulate and wish him all success. Ms Coninsx used the occasion to visit a major European investment in Puebla, the Volkswagen plant in the capital city of Puebla. Nearly 17.000 staff are currently employed at the Volkswagen plant, to which around 50.000 people are indirectly employed through the supplier- industries. The Volkswagen Group is building a new engine plant in Silao, in the State of Guanajuato, which is designed for an annual capacity of producing 330.000 engines.

Mexico and the United Nations have invited all nations to participate in the World Youth Conference (WYC) in León, Mexico from 23-27 August 2010. This event brings together youngsters, non-governmental organisms, governments and parliamentarians to discuss youth matter. Moreover the Conference has the aim to review the youth's role in attaining the Millennium Development Goals (MDG).
