Description: In Malawi, agriculture accounts for 36% of teh Gross Domestic Product (GDP), 90% of foreign exports earnings and employs 87% of the population. Howver, to reach the goal of the Malawi Growth and Development Strategy of transforming Malawi from a predominately importing and consuming to a production and exporting country, some important challenges need to be addressed. The Farm Income Diversification Programme aims to reinforce some key agricultural objectives such as imporving food security and natural resources management.
Location : Direct Government Implementaion: In the Northern region: Chitipa, Karonga, Rumphi, Mzimba districts; Central Region: Dowa, Lilongwe, Nkhota-kota, Salima districts; and Southern region: Balaka, Chiradzulu and Thyolo districts. Other districts for large grants>
