Local EU statement was issued on the Kyrgyz Supreme Court's decision on the life imprisonment against Azimjan Askarov to call upon the Kyrgyz authorities to consider all possible ways to re-examine the case of Askarov and his co-defendants.

8 SeptemberThe UN, OSCE and EU Special Envoys visit the Kyrgyz Republic in the wake of presidential elections. Meetings were held with President Roza Otunbayeva, Prime Minister Almazbek Atambaev, Speaker of the Parliament Akhmatbek Keldibekov, and Foreign Minister Ruslan Kazakbaev.

The UN, OSCE and EU Special Envoys visit the Kyrgyz Republic to mark the anniversary of the April 2010 events. Meetings were held with President Roza Otunbayeva, Vice-Speaker of the Parliament Asilbek Jeenbekov, and Foreign Minister Ruslan Kazakbaev.

The EU High Representative Catherine Ashton makes a statement to mark the anniversary of the April 2010 events in the Kyrgyz Republic that led to the establishment of a democratic constitutional order in the country.

EU-Central Asia Ministerial Meeting held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. The EU was represented by the Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs
Janos Martonyi, the EU Commissioner for Development Andris Piebalgs, and the EU Special Representative for Central Asia Ambassador Pierre Morel. The Kyrgyz Republic was represented by Foreign Minister Ruslan Kazakbaev.

The President of the Kyrgyz Republic Roza Otunbayeva visits Brussels and meets with the President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy and the President of the European Commission José Manuel Barroso to discuss an ambitious reform agenda for the stabilization and democratization of the Kyrgyz Republic.

The EU High Representative Catherine Ashton makes a statement on the establishment of the new coalition government of the Kyrgyz Republic, which constitutes an important milestone towards the reestablishment of constitutional order and further democratic consolidation of the country.

 

16-17 November

The EU Commissioner for Development Andris Piebalgs visits the Kyrgyz Republic to discuss the EU assistance provided in response to the April and June 2010 crisis, as well as current and future cooperation and assistance to Kyrgyzstan in the areas of social protection and food security, education, infrastructure rehabilitation, and the promotion of good governance and the rule of law.

The EU High Representative Catherine Ashton makes a statement on the peaceful conduct of the Parliamentary elections in the Kyrgyz Republic, which constitute an important milestone towards the democratic stabilisation of the country.

 

18 September

The EU High Representative Catherine Ashton makes a statement on the conviction of human rights defender Azimjan Askarov and urges the authorities to do everything in their power to ensure that his right to a fair trial is respected.

 

14 September

The UN, OSCE and EU Special Envoys visit the Kyrgyz Republic to declare that the international community stands ready to provide its full support to Kyrgyzstan's government in its work to reconstruct the affected areas and to create a stable and prosperous future for the country and its people.

 

27 July

High-Level Donors Meeting in support of the Kyrgyz Republic was held in Bishkek. The EU pledged €118 million in support to humanitarian recovery and reconstruction efforts of the country following the April and June crisis 2010.

The EU Council adopts conclusions on the Kyrgyz Republic on the overall successful conduct of the Constitutional referendum in Kyrgyzstan, which is an important step in the ongoing process aiming at the establishment of a democratic institutional framework and the rule of law.
