Welcome
Ambassador Chantal Hebberecht,
Head of the Delegation
of the European Union
to the Kyrgyz Republic
Dear visitor,
It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the official website of the European Union Delegation to the Kyrgyz Republic.
A full-fledged Delegation of the European Union in Kyrgyzstan was opened in December of 2009. I have the great honor of being the first Head of Delegation in Bishkek. The opening of a full-fledged Delegation and my appointment are tangible signs of the European Union's commitment to further dialogue with Kyrgyzstan. The Delegation has full diplomatic status and its role is to improve the partnership between the Kyrgyz Republic and the EU.
With its latest enlargement in 2007, the EU now comprises 27 Member States, with almost 500 million citizens. Our unity in many policy fields is based on common values: freedom, democracy, the rule of law, respect for human rights, and equality, with Member States maintaining diversity as a source of strength in many fields, including culture, language and traditions. Within its competences, the EU is also an actor in the world.
Kyrgyzstan is considered to be an important partner for the EU in the Central Asia. We are here in order to facilitate a smooth transition to the consolidated democracy, stability and market economy. Advanced democratic reforms, valuable contribution to the regional security, important role in economic transit and transport links, and active involvement in education networks make Kyrgyzstan an important link in the regional context.
The partnership between the European Union and the Kyrgyz Republic are based on the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement that entered into force in 1999, and on the European Union and Central Asia: Strategy for a New Partnership that was adopted in 2007 – two milestone documents of our cooperation aimed at stability and mutual prosperity.
We have designed this website with the aim of keeping our browsers abreast of the most recent developments in the partnership between Kyrgyzstan and the EU, by providing the up-to-date information, news and reports. We also seek to provide the website’s visitors with an in-depth view of the EU wide spectrum of objectives, activities and programs in Kyrgyzstan.
I would like to welcome you once again to the EU delegation's website, which I hope you will find interesting as well as beneficial.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you need additional information - our staff is ready to assist you with any questions you might have. And feel free to share with us any suggestions or ideas that may improve the quality of our website.
Sincerely yours,
Ambassador Chantal Hebberecht,
Head of the Delegation of the European Union to the Kyrgyz Republic
