Meet our Trainees

02.05.2024

Julia is a Trainee in the Political, Press and Information Section of the EU Delegation to Kenya.

What does a typical day look like in your Section?

The main advantage of the Political Section is that the work is very diverse – there's no such thing as getting bored! In the mornings, I usually assist with press reviews. The work in the afternoons can vary, but I typically support the team with political reports, briefings, or social media and website posts. Once a month, I also get to attend meetings with all the EU Ambassadors present in Nairobi. These meetings are sometimes held with members of the Kenyan Government. I help to prepare them by drawing up briefs and taking notes to summarise the discussions.

How is life in Nairobi?

Nairobi is an incredible place to live in! There are many activities to do, ranging from roaming through the vibrant Maasai markets to enjoying a picnic in Karura Forest.  If you’re an animal lover, you’ll also enjoy doing a safari at the Nairobi National Park, where you can see zebras, hippos and even lions up close! Nairobi is also a young city. It’s really easy to meet people your age and there is a vast network of interns that you can connect with.
