Mr. Hugues Mingarelli, EU Managing Director for North Africa, Middle East, Arabian Peninsula, Iran and Iraq at the EEAS visits Jordan (10/09/2012)

The Managing Director for North Africa, Middle East, Arabian Peninsula, Iran and Iraq at the European External Action Service, Hugues Mingarelli, is visiting Jordan on 10 September 2012 at the occasion of the EU-Jordan Association Committee*, to be attended by senior officials of the Jordanian public administration and representatives from European financial institutions.

The Association Committee will allow Mr. Mingarelli to exchange views on the latest developments in regional and international matters, to discuss the state of play of bilateral relations, to review the progress made by Jordan in moving forward on political and economic reforms. The EU and Jordan have developed a very close relationship over time and notably in the last few years through the “advanced status” partnership, agreed in October 2010: a milestone in our bilateral relations.

In addition, Mr. Mingarelli is scheduled to meet with H.E. Dr. Taher Al-Masri, President of the Senate, H.E. Nasser Judeh, Minister of Foreign Affairs and H.E. Soleiman Al Hafez, Minister of Finance.

 

Background
The EU-Jordan Association Agreement, which was negotiated in late '90s and entered into force in May 2002, sets the framework of the EU-Jordan relations.
 
The Association Committee is entitled to take decisions for the management of the Association Agreement. It is chaired in turn by a senior EU representative (European External Action Service) and by a representative of the Jordanian government [Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation]. It reviews the progress made in the development of relations in all areas foreseen by the Association Agreement.
